Preventing children from accessing inappropriate websites or limiting their time on a computer is not as easy as it sounds. You can't keep an eye on them at all times, but Surfblocker can. This lightweight application is capable of blocking access to the Internet or just harmful content, according to a schedule and a wide range of rules, which you can establish yourself. In this regard, the application is quite flexible. It can enforce your Internet usage rules, at home or at the office.

Surfblocker is free to try, with one minor limitation. The trial version is fully functional, but it comes with an option for bypassing the master password. Installing the application does not take long and you don't have to make any Internet or network-related settings along the way. Surfblocker can be used on all popular Windows platforms, without sacrificing too many resources.

The user interface has a clean and efficient layout, which makes it quite easy to restrict access to the Internet. Besides preventing a user from accessing websites, the software can also prevent applications and services from connecting to the internet. Everything can be blocked on demand, just by clicking a check box, on the main interface. Additionally, you can make exceptions for particular programs, services, websites or IP addresses, by adding them on different lists.

If you wish to block specific items and allow everything else, you can add them to block lists, just like the exceptions. Adult websites, drugs, gambling, malware sources or other harmful contents are already added to a watchlist and blocked by default. Everything, except for harmful contents, can be temporarily unblocked. Surfblocker allows you to unblock websites, applications and so on, for a specified amount of time, until the next restart or until the computer is left idle for a certain amount of time. Of course, you can also stop the temporary unblock manually.

The websites, programs and services you target can be blocked at all times or at certain hours of certain days, according to your personal timetable. Furthermore, you can impose daily computer usage limits for all Windows user accounts or for individual ones. Another interesting feature, which is definitely worth mentioning, is the application's addiction stopper. If you can't stop browsing the web, you can temporarily lock yourself out of Surfblocker. As a result, you won't be able to access the application's block and unblock functions, even if you have a password, for a certain amount of time, which can range from 5 minutes to 24 hours.

Pros

You can prevent users, applications and services from connecting to the Internet. The application allows you to block everything and add exceptions or vice-versa. It can enforce your rules according to a timetable and it can limit individual user accounts.

Cons

Apart from the trial version's limitation, there are no obvious drawbacks to mention. While Surfblocker is working on your computer, no one will be able to connect to the Internet when they are not supposed to.
